Carving the female figure vol1
The DVD includes plan drawings, still photographs and 80 minutes of detailed video instruction.
Ian guides you, step by step, through the complexities of carving a beautiful full female figure. He recommends a fairly plain timber for this work, such as limewood/basswood, so that the grain of the wood will not dominate the shape of the piece.
Carving the female figure vol2
The disk includes plan drawings, still photographs and 45 minutes of detailed video instruction. Ian uses a log of elm from his garden in Ireland for this work.
In addition to guiding the viewer step-by-step through the carving process, he demonstrates how to maximize the wood available - from an ordinary round log to a beautiful, completely symmetrical figure.
Carving a female torso
The disk includes plan drawings, still photographs and 45 minutes of step-by-step video instruction. Highly recommended as a first step to figure carving, this DVD guides the viewer through the process of carving the female torso - a beautiful but simple shape that can be executed at any size.
Carving a male torso
The disk includes plan drawings, a tool list, and still photographs. Ian offers 45 minutes of step-by-step video instructions for carving a striking male torso.
He covers key muscle structures and underlying anatomy. His finishing techniques include how to deal with knots in wood. This is not a difficult carving and with a block of strongly grained wood the viewer can create a truly memorable piece.
Carving a female head
The disk includes plan drawings, still photographs and 45 minutes of step-by-step video instruction.
Ian has taught many of his students to successfully complete this carving. His DVD is a simple but excellent introduction to carving a portrait head, with expert guidance at every stage. After completing this head, the viewer will have the confidence to go on to carve a portrait of a friend, a family member or perhaps even a self portrait.
Carving a horse head
Ian shows how to carve a horse's head in this 60-minute video, from plan drawings to finishing technique. He provides still photographs of the completed carving taken from different angles. Ian uses the carver's favorite wood - limewood/basswood - but other timbers are available in this size and can be used to good effect
